    Thank you for your feedback!

Sam Williamson. I really love the new features - but the sound theme let me believe i have a Wii. I've gotta agree with the other comments above regarding the noise from the xbox It sounds like a vacuum cleaner running at full blast, and I've not noticed it throttling down, even when doing "low-intensity" tasks like playing mp3s. My best media player setup yet has to be my old 1st gen xbox with XBMC.

Everything just WORKED, there was literally no hassle once you had configured it, which to be honest involved some xml-file editing. I'm fairly sure that my next media player will be XBMC on a cheap, small noiseless linux box or mac mini. But NXE definately sounds cool. I wonder if any of the nice features will be available to customers outside the US though? I managed to get my gentoo Linux box streaming to the this weekend. When my original , which was marginally usable as a Media Center Extender noise-wise, needed to go in for a non-warranty repair, it was replaced with what I can only assume was a later-generation model where they had cranked up the fans in order to alleviate the overheating issues. This new unit's fans spools up to jet turbine levels at the slightest provocation, and the noise is unbearable.

My best attempt at a non-hyperbolic objective measure would be that it's about the same level as a quiet vacuum cleaner. It's loud enough that I can't play games at night because in order to hear the game over the fans, the volume has to be high enough that it wakes up other family members. And with 2 toddlers, my prime time for gaming is at night. I also have my in a cabinet with a glass door. If the door's closed, the noise is of course quieter think quiet vacuum cleaner in the next room , but with the door closed the unit overheats and shuts down with three red lights--this happened most recently about 3 minutes into playing the HD Gears 2 trailer.
