How to dual monitor mac mini 2012

I've read from other posts that it is possible to get the full x resolution this way only if your HDMI is v1. I know most gamers are able to use software like switch res to tweak their HDMI to get this to work at full res - but that is on the pc side of the fence.

Don't know if apple has anything like this? If this will not work, can I just split the output on the end of the dual link dvi adapter and connect both displays that way? I always used an imac and never needed a second display. Now that I have the new mini, I will just be using it for photo editing and would like to have the main screen display thumbnails in light room.

And have the second displaying full sized images in photoshop etc. BTW, I have maxed out the ram to 16gb, and installed 2 intel ssd's in raid 0 with trim enabled as the boot drive.

This little box moves quick! I am very happy with the performance so far. I currently have an LG ips led monitor attached via hdmi port.

Don't get me wrong, The hdmi looks great. I would just prefer to get the max out of the card if possible. Thanks in advance for the help. You folks are the best.

Jul 24, The inch iMacs introduced in late included the first version of Target Display Mode, a special feature that allowed iMacs to be used as displays for other devices. But in the end, Target Display Mode became an Apple-only technology that allowed Mac users to drive an iMac's display from another Mac.

Still, it can be quite compelling to see your Mac mini making use of your older inch iMac as a display, or for troubleshooting an iMac having display issues. The inch iMac has a bi-directional Mini DisplayPort or a Thunderbolt port depending on the model that can be used to drive a second monitor. The same Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt port can be used as a video input that allows your iMac to serve as a monitor for another Mac.

All you need are the proper ports and cables to make the connection between the two Macs. It's possible to use more than one iMac as a display provided all Macs — both the iMacs used for display and the source Mac — are using Thunderbolt connectivity. Each iMac used as a display counts against the simultaneously connected displays supported by the Mac you're using as the source. If a temporary need arises, sure, why not?
